Matthew learned very early to set life goals. He has goals in communication, in music, in education, in writing, and he keeps himself focused on what he wants to do. He told me, ‘Mom, I have just a short time and I don’t want to waste what I have.’ And so he feels focused and also pressured because he understands the disease is progressive – and as time goes on he might be doing less and less. But he’s already accomplished more in his life than I have in mine, and I’m three times his age. I’m so proud of him.” —Joyce, Matthew’s mother
